Breaking the 'revolving door' cycle of drug addiction

Tackling the problem of drug dealing can be a difficult and frustrating issue for police officers.

In the past it has proved hard to break the "revolving door" cycle of using, dealing and then often committing other offences to fund a drug addict's lifestyle.

Over the years officers have realised that simply arresting people and putting them in prison is not enough to ensure they are on the straight and narrow once they are eventually released back into the community.

In the majority of cases, people will simply fall back into a pattern of offending, simply because they either do not know any other way to live or because their addiction forces them to.

So Operation Harley has involved not only arresting offenders, but also putting them in touch with agencies which can help start them on the path to recovery.
