Offenders sentenced to community service are to find themselves serving on work squads within hours of standing in the dock.
A pilot scheme at Glasgow Sheriff Court to establish a “one-stop shop” will mean community service and social work staff being housed in the court building or in nearby offices.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced the pilot scheme funded by the Scottish Government, saying: “Punishment should be tough and justice should be immediate.”
