Campaign trying to reduce the amount of child remand

A message from the Out of Trouble Campaign

• A quarter of children in custody are there on remand, much higher than the adult equivalent.
• Many are imprisoned for short periods, sometimes waiting for bail packages to be put together or safe accommodation found.
• More than half end up back in the community, either acquitted or serving community orders.

We think child imprisonment should only be used as a last resort – not because prison is a convenient place to park children in trouble.

New legislation proposes to make this a reality – but we need your help to make sure the changes aren’t watered down. It only takes 3 clicks to tell your MP why this matters.
